The project’s vision is “A life-saving integrated aid for women in displacement”.

Our mission is to:

1) Integrate mainstream and faith-inspired approaches to aid to improve outcomes for displaced women.

2) Develop policy dialogues and capacity building for an integrated global response to displacement

The project key outcomes include:

Outcome 1: Improved understanding of the key Islamic philanthropy (IsP) principles, actors and Islamic ethics of displaced women’s protection and their (dis)connections from/with the IHS.

Outcome 2: Improved understanding of ways in which IsP actors interact with IHS, respond to and impact displaced women, and identified entry points for their better integration.

Outcome 3: Established research and policy leadership leading to improved gender-sensitive capacity and integration of IsP models into the IHS to support displaced women.

Theory of Change

Our comprehensive theory of change guides our efforts and outlines our vision as illustrated in Figure 1.

Guidance Note and Minimum Standards

In collaboration with humanitarian partners, we conduct consultations and policy dialogues with Muslim-majority states, UN agencies, international non-governmental organisations (INGOs), and faith-based organisations (FBOs) to ensure that different viewpoints are shared and capacities are built to inform the study, capacity building, and impact activities. Thus, an interdisciplinary approach ensures that the project benefits multiple disciplines, stakeholders, and geographical regions.

Training for Humanitarian Actors

Drawing on our research findings and multi-stakeholder engagement, we intend to design a ‘Making Islamic Philanthropy Work for Displaced Women’ training package to be piloted in 2027.

Charter for Displaced Women

Through our work on improving the evidence base of the contributions of Islamic philanthropy actors in responses to women in displacement, we aim to mobilise voices, advocacy, and capacity to advance women’s inclusion in countries of transit and refuge.
