“Making Aid Work for Displaced Women: Integrating Islamic Philanthropy and the International Humanitarian System to Improve Outcomes for Women” is a UKRI- funded project (2024-2028) led by the University of Birmingham which explores how Islamic philanthropy can be leveraged to improve humanitarian outcomes for displaced women.
We call for expressions of interest from refugee-led organisations (RLOs) and community-based organisations to collaborate in data collection for research on displaced women’s experiences of receiving aid from diverse aid actors and women’s needs in five locations:
- Nairobi, Kenya
- Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh
- Ankara/Istanbul, Turkey
- Quetta, Pakistan
- London/Birmingham, UK
Scope of Work
Selected partners will collaborate with UoB research team to:
- Conduct qualitative data collection (e.g. focus groups, interviews) with women and men in their communities.
- Ensure ethical and safe engagement with participants, following project safeguarding and consent protocols.
Our Approach
We prioritise support for women-led organisations that centre women’s agency and participation.
We believe in participatory and trust-based research models, working in partnership with refugee-led actors.
What We Offer
- Fellowship/Affiliation with the Making Aid Work for Displaced Women project.
- Participation allowance/stipend to cover time and contributions of RLO partners.
- Capacity-strengthening support, including training in qualitative research, ethical data collection, safeguarding, and gender-sensitive interviewing.
- Collaborative engagement, with opportunities to co-shape findings, impact activities and to be acknowledged in outputs.
Who Can Apply
- Refugee-led organisations and community-based groups and individuals.
- Organisations with demonstrated commitment to ethical practice, safeguarding, and inclusion.
- Experience in community research is an asset but not required; training will be provided.
Application Process
Interested organisations are invited to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) including:
- A short statement (max 2 pages) outlining your organisation’s experience and community reach.
- The proposed community(ies) you could engage in data collection.
- Estimated budget: Your anticipated needs for participation allowance/stipend to support your involvement.
Timeline
- Deadline for EOI submission: 31 October 2025
- Selection of partners: end of November 2025
- Training and onboarding: December/January 2026
